Associate Veterinarian Dr. Katie Stipes joined the team at Oak View Animal Hospital in February 2015. Her love for animals stretches back far further, though; she can vividly recall her childhood in Cullman, Alabama and all her treasured pets. "I always gave them very interesting names," Dr. Stipes remembers. "I had an all-black Cocker Spaniel named Sunshine, and a Cocker Spaniel named Jay Barker - after the Alabama quarterback, of course."
Dr. Stipes was hooked on animals from an early age, and she continued to pursue her passion during her academic career, gaining her Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Alabama in 2007, and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. She's also volunteered with the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter, and is a member of both the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
At Oak View Animal Hospital, Dr. Stipes' professional interests include preventative medicine and dermatology. When asked what she enjoys most about her job, however, she says: "It's helping pet owners love their four-legged children throughout life - from the first kitten or puppy visit to the end of life. I have a deep love for animals."
At home Dr. Stipes cares for a Scottish Terrier named Bear, a Siamese mix named Aubie, a Domestic Short Hair named Darby, and a Red Eared Slider named Squirt. In her free time, Dr. Stipes enjoys cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide, cooking, reading, traveling, and spending time with her husband Chris. She is a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover.
